Calfee, Halter & Griswold LLP is pleased to announce that Kari Evans Bennett has joined the firm's Energy and Utilities Law practice group in the Indianapolis office.

Kari brings a wealth of experience serving clients in the areas of energy, utilities, and related environmental law issues gained through a variety of significant roles in the private and public sectors over the past 30 years.

Calfee's Energy and Utilities Law practice group provides clients with strategic support based on decades of experience, a track record of success at the state and federal levels, public policy advocacy, and deep transactional experience. Our clients have included a broad range of investor-owned utilities, municipal utilities, regional transmission organizations, telecommunication entities, pipeline companies, coal companies, investors, lenders, renewable resource developers, and utility customers.

Prior to joining Calfee, Kari served as Commissioner for the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission, General Counsel for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Policy Director for Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels, and as an attorney and Environmental Manager for the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. In the private sector, she previously served as President of Aqua Indiana, Inc. Executive Director of External Affairs and Senior Corporate Counsel and Senior Director of Program Strategy at the Midcontinent Independent System Operator, Inc. (MISO), and as an attorney with Barnes & Thornburg LLP. In the nonprofit sector, Kari serves as Director of Land Development and Production for Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County. She volunteers and serves as a board member with Indiana Canine Assistant Network and on the Land Acquisition Committee for Brown County Habitat for Humanity. An avid hiker and kayaker, Kari spends most weekends exploring southern Indiana's forests and creeks.

Kari earned her J.D., cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Law School and her bachelor's degree in Environmental Science and Philosophy, cum laude, from Miami University (Ohio).
