John S. Cipolla, Firm Vice Chair and Partner with Calfee's Intellectual Property practice group, has been inducted into the 2023 Class of The Cleveland State University College of Law Hall of Fame.

John has 38 years of experience in patent and trademark law, successfully resolving a diverse range of federal and state litigation claims and disputes before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board on behalf of plaintiffs and defendants in the areas of patents, copyrights, trade secrets, product configuration, and trademarks. He is recognized as a “Leading Lawyer” in Intellectual Property (Ohio, Band 1) by Chambers USA and recognized by The Best Lawyers in America® in Litigation – Intellectual Property and Patent Law.

Having served on Calfee's Management Committee since 2010, John was elected Vice Chair of the firm in 2021. He served as Chair of the Intellectual Property practice group for over 15 years. The IP Practice Group more than doubled in size during John’s leadership to over 45 IP professionals covering all areas of IP practice.

John serves as Chair of CSU | Law’s IP Advisory Council and as Board President of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Greater Cleveland. He is a member of the Cleveland Intellectual Property Law Association (CIPLA).

John earned his J.D., cum laude, from CSU | Law and his B.S. in Electronic Technology, cum laude, from Bowling Green State University.

The CSU | Law Hall of Fame was established in 2017 to honor the outstanding contributions to the success and prestige of the law school by distinguished alumni, faculty, staff, friends, and community leaders.
