Overview

Erik focuses his practice on mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, equity investments, and general corporate matters for strategic and private equity clients in various industries, including energy, logistics, manufacturing, construction, and financial services. He leverages his experience negotiating commercial payment systems agreements to creatively and effectively navigate complex and unique corporate transaction structures.

Erik has guided clients through domestic and cross-border transactions, including multi-billion-dollar divestitures and acquisitions in technology, telecommunications, health care, and industrial sectors.

Erik joined Calfee in 2026 after eight years with Alston & Bird. He earned his J.D., summa cum laude, and M.B.A. from St. Mary’s University and his B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin.

Erik’s experience includes the following representative transactions completed during his tenure at a former firm:

  • Counsel to a global building products company in the $2.15 billion sale of its North American divisions.
  • Counsel to a private equity sponsor in the acquisition of a leading tech-enabled, non-asset-based provider of managed transportation services to mid-sized shippers.
  • Counsel to a private equity sponsor in its acquisition of a national telecommunications services and managed connectivity solutions provider.
  • Counsel to an international manufacturer of industrial gas, chemical, and energy-related products and its wholly owned domestic subsidiary in the acquisition of a Texas-based manufacturing company.
  • Counsel to a health care IT company in the acquisition of a health insurance eligibility and benefit information gateway.
  • Counsel to an alternative investment fund manager in a series round investment in a national managed health care provider network.
  • Counsel to an alternative investment fund manager in the recapitalization and restructuring of, and equity investment in, a national consumer debt-relief provider.
  • Counsel to a provider of payment processing solutions and services in a complex transition services arrangement related to its acquisition of a line of business from one of the largest financial institutions in the U.S.
  • Counsel to financial institutions, fintech companies and other payment system participants in documenting and negotiating card issuing and processing relationships.
  • Counsel to an international building products manufacturer in preparation and negotiation of ordinary course commercial contracts with vendors, suppliers and strategic partners.
