Brad Liu prepares and prosecutes patent applications in a diverse range of technical areas such as medical devices and equipment, LCD displays, two-way radios, consumer products, consumer electronics, and automotive and computer-related technologies.
His patent prosecution experiences include assisting clients before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the National Intellectual Property Administration of China, and other foreign countries. He has extensive experience with the PCT patent filing and prosecution process, as well as Track One Prioritized Examination under the USPTO.
Brad is actively involved with intellectual property litigation matters, especially in factual investigation, discovery, and claim construction stages. Experienced in both U.S. and Chinese legal systems, he counsels clients to understand litigation procedures and develop strategies for complex litigation in foreign jurisdictions. He also counsels clients regarding design-around assistance, FTO, patentability, validity opinions, and IPR proceedings under the USPTO.
In addition, Brad provides our Chinese clients with general counseling on establishing and doing business in the U.S. and immigration issues in the United States.
Brad earned his J.D. from the University of Akron School of Law in 2015. He earned his M.B.A. from Ashland University in 2011.
He earned his Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Measurement Control Technology & Instruments from Harbin Institute of Technology in 2005. He is a member of the Cleveland Intellectual Property Law Association.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Brad worked for several years as a patent specialist for a Chinese intellectual property law firm and as a control engineer for a Chinese energy company before joining Calfee as a Law Clerk in 2013. He became an attorney in 2015.
