Overview

Chet works closely with clients, providing design-around assistance, non-infringement opinions, and invalidity opinions. He assists clients in the development of strong patent portfolios by helping to identify key concepts and preparing and prosecuting patent applications. He also assists clients in matters of licensing negotiations.

Chet earned his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Ohio University in 1989 and was employed as an engineering consultant for 10 years before joining Calfee in 2002. He was elected Partner in 2011.

Experience

  • Working directly with the General Counsel of a subsidiary of a publicly traded, Fortune 100 manufacturer to provide counsel on critical IP-related issues and strategic advice on how to protect and leverage these rights to maximize their value and competitive advantage. Specifically, Calfee counsels the client on issues pertaining to global freedom-to-practice concerns, licensing negotiations, and strategic business arrangements.
