Overview

Jodi’s practice focuses on advising clients through all phases of insurance recovery, including policy analysis, claims handling, litigation, and strategic recovery planning. Jodi has successfully litigated high-stakes coverage disputes involving environmental liabilities, asbestos claims, and bad faith actions, has secured favorable rulings in both trial and appellate courts and has successfully negotiated high-dollar settlements in various coverage disputes.

Jodi is one of just 22 Ohio lawyers certified as an Insurance Coverage Law Specialist by the Ohio State Bar Association, a certification she has held since 2014 as part of the inaugural classes. She has been a member of the OSBA Specialist Certification Board for nearly a decade.

In addition to her role within the Ohio insurance coverage community, Jodi has a long history of service and leadership within the national American Bar Association’s Section of Litigation, Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee, including serving as Vice Co-Chair  of the ICLC from 2021 to 2023 and serving as Vice Co-Chair and Co-Chair of the ICLC’s prestigious annual CLE seminar held in Tucson, Arizona. With 2,400 members, the ICLC is one of the largest and most active committees in the Section of Litigation, with strong representation from the largest national and international law firms and 30 sub-committees. As a longstanding past leader and conference speaker with the ICLC for nearly 20 years, Jodi has benefitted from developing strong working relationships with the industry’s top lawyers and has helped to educate colleagues in the industry on current insurance coverage legal issues.

Prior to joining Calfee in 2025, Jodi operated her own law firm where she represented policyholders in various insurance recovery disputes. Before that, Jodi was a partner and/or held senior positions at several regional and national law firms.

Jodi earned her J.D., cum laude, from the University of Toledo College of Law, where she was a Note and Comment Editor for the Law Review and a member of the Order of the Coif.

Jodi’s experience includes the following representative matters completed during her tenure at former law firms:

  • Sat second chair in jury trial on behalf of a corporate policyholder pursuing a bad faith claim against an insurer; obtained punitive damages.
  • Represented policyholder amicus groups in the Ohio Supreme Court.
  • Represented policyholder in litigation that established Texas law on the duty to defend environmental cleanup actions brought by the EPA.
  • Obtained dispositive ruling under Ohio law on trigger and scope of insurance coverage for mass asbestos tort liability in favor of the policyholder, adverse to multiple defendant insurers.
