In a move that signals growth and succession planning, Calfee, Halter & Griswold LLP today announced the opening of a Washington, D.C., office and the promotion of several key leaders.

Calfee is expanding its statewide government relations practice to the federal level, bringing the strength of its legal, lobbying, and consulting services to Washington, according to Managing Partner Brent D. Ballard. It marks the fourth Calfee office and the first outside of Ohio.

“Developing a presence in the nation’s capital is a strategic step that will enable our law firm to serve the growing needs of our clients,” Ballard said. “We are excited to add attorneys and complementary services in this market.”

On the leadership front, Douglas A. Neary and Mitchell G. Blair have been named vice chairmen of the firm. Both have national reputations as leading lawyers, Neary in corporate and capital markets, and Blair in litigation. They will work on firmwide strategic growth initiatives along with Ballard and Chairman Thomas F. McKee.

Arthur C. Hall III has been appointed partner-in-charge of the Cleveland office. He will oversee personnel and day-to-day management of Calfee’s largest office.

In their new roles, Neary, Blair, and Hall will continue to serve clients.

In other moves, Jennifer L. Vergilii and Maura L. Hughes have been tapped as practice group co-chairs in key business areas.  Vergilii will help steer the Corporate and Capital Markets Group, with robust practices in mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, and private equity.  Hughes will help lead the Litigation Group and serve as general counsel for the firm.

“These highly regarded attorneys are leaders across the firm, the profession, and the community,” said Ballard. “With this talented team, Calfee is well positioned to continue to prosper and grow.”
