As part of Calfee’s Public Finance practice, our lawyers assist businesses and governments in obtaining and providing financial incentives, which will encourage and promote economic development. We have assisted governmental clients in creating tax increment financing districts, community redevelopment areas and special improvement districts, which allow creative redirection or exemption of property taxes and assessments. We have assisted our business clients in utilizing these tools, and others, such as the jobs creation tax credit and tax-exempt private activity bonds, to facilitate expansion and job creation.
We have assisted urban and suburban Ohio communities in creating tax increment financing districts where the increase in property tax revenues is redirected to assist in financing costs of business expansion. We have worked with state and local governments in accessing low-interest loan and grant programs for economic and job growth, as well as facilitating energy-efficiency projects through state agencies and local special improvement districts.
