The Ohio House voted to restore business income tax deductions for lawyers and lobbyists, a deduction they had previously been exempt to. Maryellen Corbett, senior counsel with Calfee's Government Relations practice group, gives two key takeaways from this monumental decision:

1. The House noted they were unable to track on tax forms what profession people have, making the exclusion of just two professions from the deduction impossible to implement.

2. The House vote is the first step in the process of restoring the deduction. The Senate must vote to concur in the change and the Governor must ultimately sign the bill.
