Overview

John has been writing and prosecuting patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office for over 20 years.  He has obtained hundreds of patents for various clients in various technological fields. 

He enjoys working with clients to identify their intellectual property goals and help them develop a strategy for achieving those goals. 

John has significant experience managing clients’ IP assets, including: PCT and international filings and portfolio management; patent portfolio analysis; Track One applications in preparation for litigation; invalidity and non-infringement opinions; patent searches and production clearance opinions; and prosecution of international applications and global patent portfolios.

John earned his J.D. from the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law, where he served as an editor for the Journal of International and Comparative Law and was a Representative for the Student Bar Association. He earned his B.E.E. in Electrical Engineering from Cleveland State University in 2007 and his B.S. in Biology and English Literature (double major) from the University of Michigan in 1996.

John joined Calfee in 2023 from an intellectual property boutique law firm in Cleveland, Ohio, where he served as an Associate, Partner, and Counsel for 16 years. He also worked for four years as an Associate with another Cleveland-area boutique IP firm.
