Alexis earned her Juris Doctorate, magna cum laude, from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University, where she served as Vice President of the Black Law Students Association and as a member of the Thurgood Marshall Moot Court Team. As a Moot Court participant, Alexis achieved first place in the National Thurgood Marshall Moot Court Competition in 2021. She achieved second place in the Regional Midwest Thurgood Marshall Moot Court Competition in 2021 and first place in 2020.
While at Cleveland-Marshall, Alexis volunteered with the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association’s 3Rs Program, a landmark initiative connecting lawyers, judges, law students, and paralegals with high school students in Cleveland and East Cleveland schools. Program volunteers help students understand and respect the rule of law and the Constitution, increase passage of the civics tests required for graduation, receive practical career counseling focused on achieving their potential beyond high school, and increase the “pipeline” of minorities flowing into legal careers in the region.
Alexis worked as a Summer Associate at Calfee in 2019 and 2020, where she gained experience in legal research and writing as well as various corporate due diligence projects. She was invited to speak at Calfee’s Executive Board Meeting for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion on how law firms can establish pipelines within law schools to reach minority students.
In addition, Alexis served as a Legal Extern with the Family Department at the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland and with the Legal Department at Nueva Luz Urban Resource Center.
She holds a B.A. from the University of Dayton in International Studies with a concentration in Peace and Global Security and minors in Political Science, Human Rights Studies, and Spanish. In addition, Alexis earned a certificate in Intensive Spanish Language Study from El Instituto Central American in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala in July 2017.
Alexis gained experience as an intern for YESS AmeriCorps in Dayton, Ohio, where she aided case managers in helping homeless youth develop life skills for self-sufficiency. She also interned with Abolition Ohio in Dayton supporting a coalition of anti-trafficking stakeholders that focus on awareness and prevention, coordination of victim services, and building partnerships in the Miami Valley and nationally.
Alexis is a graduate of the 2013 Class of Cleveland Leadership Center’s "Look Up to Cleveland" program.
