Overview

David counsels companies on a broad range of business and legal concerns, including all aspects of business formation, fundraising, contracts, mergers and acquisitions, and regulatory compliance. Having earned a certificate in FinTech from Harvard’s Office of the Vice Provost for Advances in Learning (VPAL), David’s interests include the developing legal and regulatory implications of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies.

Before joining Calfee, David was an Associate in the Business and Finance group of Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP in Cincinnati.

David has served the University of Cincinnati College of Law since 2020 as an Adjunct Professor of Law, co-teaching Introduction to Financial Technology: Cryptocurrencies, Blockchain, and the Law. The course aims to provide a fundamental understanding of this evolving area by focusing on (i) how blockchain and cryptocurrencies work, (ii) how they are used in business today and how they are likely to be used in the coming years, and (iii) how they are regulated, with particular emphasis on the U.S. federal securities laws.

Since 2019, David has served as a board member of the Walnut Hills Redevelopment Foundation (WHRF). The WHRF is a nonprofit community development corporation working to enhance the quality of life in the Walnut Hills neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio. The WHRF works to promote physical investment and growth in Walnut Hills through the facilitation of strategic public sector and private sector partnerships with the objective of developing relationships that further the community's vision.

David earned his J.D., magna cum laude and Order of the Coif from the University of Cincinnati College of Law.

During law school, he was founder of the Latino/a Law Students Association (LaLSA) chapter at UC Law; chairman of the Student Law Education Council (SLEC); contributing editor of the University of Cincinnati Law Review; program assistant to the Center for Race, Gender, and Social Justice (CRGSJ); and a student contributor for Marianna Brown Bettman's blog, Legally Speaking Ohio.

David graduated with a B.A. in philosophy from Ohio University and pursued an A.A.B in Culinary Arts from Hocking College.

He joined Calfee as an Associate in 2020.

Prior to pursuing a legal education, David worked in a diverse range of capacities – from cooking at Wylie Durfresne’s wd-50 in New York City, to fundraising for a multinational, nonprofit organization, to commercial fishing in Alaska. He leverages his diverse professional background to better relate to clients and to better understand their business needs.
