As we head into the holiday season, we wanted to take a moment to share exciting news related to firm and practice group leadership transitions and introduce you to our newly elected partners and attorneys who joined Calfee in 2022.
For the past 120 years, Calfee has remained dedicated to ensuring our clients receive best-in-class legal counsel and client service, which requires that we maintain optimal leadership and practice group structures that benefit from new and diverse perspectives.
Firm Leadership
We are pleased to announce the following firm leaders, whose new roles will be effective January 1, 2023:
- After 18 years serving as Calfee's Managing Partner, Brent D. Ballard will be stepping into a new role for the firm, serving as its first Chief Strategy Officer. During his tenure as Managing Partner, Brent has successfully led the growth of the firm from two offices in Ohio to six offices in Ohio, Indianapolis, New York, and the District of Columbia. This new role allows Brent to focus on accelerating firm growth in areas that best support our clients. Brent will remain a member of the firm's Management Committee.

Thomas M. Welsh has been elected to serve as the firm's next Managing Partner. Tom joined Calfee in 2003 and was elected Partner in 2012. He has served as a member of the Management Committee and as Co-Chair of the firm's Corporate and Finance practice group. In addition, Tom has been active in the community, including serving the Cleveland chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) as President-Elect of the Board of Directors and as former Chair of its annual Deal Maker Awards event. With the full support of our leadership team, Tom will continue to practice law and serve clients as a trusted advisor as he assumes the Managing Partner role.

Jennifer L. Vergilii and Terrence F. Doyle have been elected to serve as Firm Vice Chairs. Jenn and Terry join current Vice Chairs John S. Cipolla and Mitchell G. (Mitch) Blair. Douglas A. (Doug) Neary will continue to serve as Firm Chair.

Terrence F. (Terry) Doyle and K. James Sullivan have been elected to serve on the firm's Management Committee.
