Situation Summary:
Calfee served as special legal counsel to an Ohio municipality in response to a road-widening project.  There were several delicate issues related to the project that needed negotiated with property owners adjoining to the road.  Some of these issues included zoning questions related to signage and definitions of access easements.

Calfee Approach:
Calfee filed 14 separate “quick take” appropriation actions against owners of property adjoining the road being widened so that the city’s project could proceed in a timely manner pursuant to deadlines fixed by ODOT.

Resolution:
All appropriation actions were efficiently negotiated to a successful conclusion, thereby saving the city the expense and uncertainty of jury determinations as to the value of property taken and damages to the residue.
