Situation Summary
In the early 1970s, Calfee began working with RPM International Inc. (RPM), a small, publicly held company that produced a handful of specialty chemical products.  Since then, the company has grown into a multinational holding company with subsidiaries that manufacture and market high-performance coatings, sealants and specialty chemicals.  Throughout those growth years to the present, Calfee has become an integral part of RPM’s operations and culture.

During the 1980s and 1990s, Calfee served as principle counsel through a flurry of acquisitions, including many common household brands. The law firm was instrumental in providing a wide range of services, including negotiating bank financing, assisting in raising both equity and debt, and maintaining the company’s intellectual property.

Calfee Approach
Today, RPM is a $3.5 billion company with 9,000 employees and facilities around the world. Calfee has grown and adapted to RPM throughout the relationship and continues to provide a full range of services, such as litigation, insurance recovery, financing, securities, intellectual property, labor and employment, and employee benefits.

Resolution
Throughout the past 35 years, Calfee has maintained an unwavering commitment to identify RPM’s ever-changing needs, while remaining flexible to its evolving goals. To this day, Calfee continues to take the time learning new intricacies of each issue to provide better results. The approach has been a long-term collaboration that continues to grow and help RPM achieve many of its immediate and long-term business objectives.
