Richard P. Goddard

Partner

RICK serves as co-chair of the firm’s Labor and Employment group.  He litigates disputes dealing with civil rights, labor, employment, construction and general commercial issues.

Rick regularly appears in state and federal court on behalf of clients in public and private civil rights litigation, complex construction litigation, labor injunction proceedings and general commercial litigation matters.  He provides experienced defense counsel for intentional tort claims filed against industrial employers and coordinates the defense of OSHA investigation proceedings involving industrial fatalities and injuries.  Rick defends corporate clients in employment discrimination claims at all administrative and judicial levels.  His experience also includes providing clients with skilled representation in mediations, arbitrations, bench and jury trials, and appellate advocacy.

Outside of the firm, Rick serves as secretary and trustee of The Edward and Betty Sloat Foundation and is past president and a director of The Cleveland Music School Settlement.  He is an active member of the American, Ohio and Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Associations and the ABA’s Litigation, Labor, and Employment Law Sections and serves as an arbitrator on the American Arbitration Association’s Construction Industry Arbitration Panel.

Rick began his tenure with Calfee in 1979 and became a partner in 1987.
