RAY practices in the firm’s Intellectual Property group. He has extensive experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications in the chemical, medical, biotechnological, and mechanical arts. He also has significant experience preparing patentability, validity, and infringement opinions, with a particular emphasis on freedom to operate opinions regarding generic pharmaceuticals.
Prior to entering the practice of law, Ray worked at the Chemical Abstracts Service as a scientific information analyst, re-engineering consultant, and system coordinator. While working as a scientific information analyst, he analyzed and provided structuring information for literature in the biochemistry area, with a particular focus on pharmacology.
While a graduate student, Ray worked for Dr. Hung-wen Liu, a specialist in carbohydrate research and enzymology. His Ph.D. is in Biological Chemistry, and his thesis work involved the study of macrophage membrane components and enzyme mechanism studies using chiral methyl sugar substrates.
Ray is a published author and a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association. He joined Calfee in 2008.
