Raymond M. Tarasuck

Senior Attorney

RAY specializes in the Workers Compensation, Litigation, and Government Relations practices. He represents employers ranging from small, closely-held business to large public corporations and public entities.

Related to workers’ compensation law, Ray has successfully argued cases on behalf of clients at the Industrial Commission of Ohio and the Court of Common Pleas throughout Ohio. He has served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Ohio - Workers’ Compensation Section. Additionally, he has argued general litigation matters at all levels of court including the Ohio Supreme Court.

Bringing 17 years of local and state political experience to the table, Ray currently sits on the Executive Committee for the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party. Ray is a former treasurer of the Mahoning County Democratic Party, and previously sat on the Executive Committee for the Mahoning County Democratic Party. Additionally, Ray has served as an Assistant County Prosecutor assigned to the Mahoning County Drug Court.

Ray has handled environmental, zoning, housing and other issues for corporate and individual clients in front of various governmental and administrative panels, such as zoning review boards and the board of health. He has also handled issues surrounding permits and variances, lead paint, mortgage relief, as well as issues involving the Ohio EPA and the Army Corps of Engineers.

Ray is a member of the Ohio and Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Associations. Through the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, and in partnership with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, Ray has participated as an instructor in the 3Rs program and as a judge for its mock trial competitions. He currently serves on the Board of Directors and the Governance Committee for the Cleveland Play House. He previously chaired the Board of Directors for the Ursuline Center for the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown. Ray has also served as president of the Board of Directors for Beatitude House, the vice president of the Board of Directors for Youngstown Playhouse and a member of the Mahoning County Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services Board. He is a graduate of Leadership Mahoning Valley, class of 2001.

Ray previously maintained a private practice where he counseled clients in corporate and business law as well as general civil litigation and criminal law. He joined Calfee in 2009.
