TIM practices information technology and intellectual property law, advising a diverse range of clients from emerging software and Internet-based businesses to established companies in sectors such as health care and life sciences, media, consumer products, professional services, manufacturing, and private equity.   

Tim’s practice emphasizes technology licensing and contracting, including software licenses; software development and consulting agreements; maintenance and service level agreements; ASP and subscription agreements; ERP implementations; outsourcing agreements; end user license agreements; source code licenses; source code escrow agreements; and open source licensing issues.  

Tim also advises clients on Internet law and electronic commerce issues, including website terms of use; website design and hosting agreements; terms and conditions of sale and other commercial law issues; privacy policies; compliance with data protection and privacy issues; compliance with anti-spam laws; strategic alliance agreements; sponsored link issues; and domain name disputes.

Tim also provides counsel on trademark, copyright, patent and trade secret licenses and cross-licenses; distributor and sales representative agreements; technology transfer issues; prosecution and maintenance of trademarks; confidentiality agreements; work-for-hire and assignment agreements; and non-competition agreements; and intellectual property and IT issues in connection with mergers, acquisitions and divestitures.

Tim counsels clients regarding media law issues such as false advertising, sweepstakes, publicity rights, content licensing, releases and permissions, defamation, and speech regulation.  He also assists clients with IT, intellectual property and media law litigation.

Tim has been an associate in the law firm of Squire, Sanders & Dempsey; the acting executive director of National Public Telecomputing Network; and president of Connors Productions, Inc., a computer multimedia design firm.  Tim began his tenure with Calfee in 1998 and became a partner in 2005.
