AVERY focuses his practice on employee benefit plans and executive compensation issues. Particularly, he centers on the development, implementation and amendment of qualified and nonqualified plans, including 401(k) plans, 403(b) plans, welfare plans and Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs). He assists public, not-for-profit and privately held companies in implementing plan changes, amendments, determination letter filings and analysis of various ESOP issues. Avery counsels clients on employee benefit plan issues related to mergers and acquisitions.
Avery is a member of the Ohio Bar Association. He currently serves as a trustee for Gilmour Academy and as president of the Lower School Parent Board for the Academy.
Prior to joining Calfee, he worked in the banking industry as in-house counsel for 15 years. Avery joined Calfee in 2008.
