NATHAN concentrates his practice on bankruptcy and insolvency litigation, corporate bankruptcy, restructuring, creditors’ rights, and receiverships, with an emphasis on commercial and insolvency litigation, including the prosecution and defense of avoidance actions, fraudulent conveyances, and claim resolution. Nathan’s litigation practice and experience encompasses all aspects of business, corporate, and commercial litigation, and he frequently counsels clients regarding techniques for protecting their commercial interests when faced with threats of litigation or insolvency proceedings.
Nathan has represented major national and international corporate clients, including automotive manufacturers, steel companies, utility and energy companies, mortgage companies, banking institutions, environmental consultants, and manufacturers within the construction industry, as well as state administrative departments and municipalities. Nathan has also represented debtors, unsecured creditors’ committees in bankruptcy proceedings, liquidation trustees, and court-appointed receivers.
He is a member of the American Bar Association Business Law Section, American Bankruptcy Institute, the Federal Bar Association, Ohio Bar Association, Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, and American Mensa. Nathan is the author of Can the Creditors Do It?: A Pan-Circuit Review of Creditors’ Rights to Derivative Standing Under Chapter 11, published in the summer of 2008, and Who's in Control?: An Overview of Control of the Attorney-Client Privilege in Corporate and Consumer Bankruptcy Proceedings, published in August of 2009.
Nathan received his juris doctor degree from the University of Akron, School of Law, summa cum laude, in 1999. Nathan was a member of the Akron Law Review, editorial board, and the winner of the 1999 Gourley Moot Court Competition. Nathan is also the recipient of the Corpus Juris Secundum award and the Cali Excellence for the Future Award. Nathan graduated from Kent State University in 1993 with degrees in history and sociology. Nathan joined Calfee in 2002. In 2011, Nathan was designated an "associate to watch" by Chambers USA.
