Matthew J. Kucharson

Associate

MATT is a member of the Litigation Practice and focuses on business, corporate and commercial litigation, securities litigation, public law litigation, and white collar defense and investigations.  He assists publicly-traded and privately-held companies in a wide range of business and securities-related disputes, and governmental bodies in disputes involving issues of public and municipal law.

Matt also represents financial institutions and broker/dealer organizations, as well as their employees and registered representatives, in civil proceedings and FINRA arbitrations, and has assisted clients in responding to SEC investigations focused on allegations of securities fraud.
 
Matt is a member of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association.  He is active in the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland, and has successfully mediated and tried cases for his pro bono clients.  He also volunteers his time as a tutor and mentor to students in Cleveland Municipal Schools through the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association’s 3R’s Program.
 
Matt authored “GPS Monitoring: A Viable Alternative to the Incarceration of Nonviolent Criminals In the State of Ohio,” 54 Clev. St. L. Rev. 637 (2007), and co-authored “Conflict Preemption of State Law in the Operation of National Market Mechanisms,” Insights -The Corporate and Securities Law Advisor, Wolters Kluwer Law & Business, August 2009.  He received his J.D., summa cum laude, from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, and his B.A., cum laude, from Xavier University.
 
Before joining Calfee in 2007, Matt was employed by Plante & Moran PLLC, a public accounting firm providing attestation and tax services for large privately-held companies.
