Kevin R. Carter

Associate

KEVIN is an associate with a focus on corporate and commercial litigation.  He has been involved in all phases of general and complex civil litigation, including pre- and post-trial motion practice, depositions and discovery (both paper and electronic), bench and jury trials, and appellate proceedings.  Kevin has successfully briefed and argued cases before Ohio’s courts of appeals.

Kevin’s cases in the corporate and commercial areas have included breach-of-contract claims; construction-related claims; fraud, contractual interference, and other business torts; partnership disputes and business dissolutions; real estate disputes; banking and finance matters; and creditors’ rights issues.  Outside his primary practice areas, Kevin has advised private companies on complying with federal government contracting regulations and defending allegations of federal False Claims Act violations.  He has also represented several Ohio municipalities in civil rights cases and planning and zoning appeals.

Before joining Calfee in 2007, Kevin was a research assistant at a nonprofit consulting firm specializing in education policy analysis.  He also spent a year as a law clerk at the Cuyahoga County, Ohio Public Defender office and a summer in law school as an extern for a magistrate judge in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.  He was a member of his law school’s National Moot Court Team and a winner of the school’s annual intramural moot court competition.

Kevin is active in Calfee’s pro bono program, regularly assisting clients in consumers’ rights cases, landlord-tenant disputes, insurance claims, and similar matters.  He is a member of the Ohio and Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Associations and has published articles in local and national bar journals.
