TROY is the co-chair of Calfee’s Tax practice group and a member of the firm’s executive committee. He counsels clients on a variety of federal income tax matters including tax issues related to partnerships, limited liability companies and corporations. He works closely with Calfee’s M&A attorneys, assisting them in structuring mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures and reorganizations in a tax-efficient manner.
His extensive knowledge of partnership taxation also enables him to provide counsel to leveraged buyout, venture capital and other private equity funds on formation issues as well as other tax-related matters.
Troy also advises owners of closely-held businesses and other high net worth individuals and executives on individual federal income tax matters, business succession planning, estate and gift tax planning and asset protection planning. Because of the depth and breadth of his knowledge of federal tax law, Troy is able to effectively counsel clients in both their business and personal matters.
Troy has been recognized in the Best Lawyers in America (2009-2012), Ohio Super Lawyers “Rising Star” (2005-2008), Columbus CEO Magazine “Top Lawyers” (2009-2011), Columbus Business First, “The Best Lawyers in Central Ohio” (2008-2010) and is AV rated by Martindale Hubbell. Co-author of “Incentive Stock Options - Highlights of the Final Regulations” (BNA Executive Compensation Library, 2004), he is an active lecturer on federal income and estate and gift tax topics. He is a member of the American, Ohio and Columbus Bar Associations and is the former co-chair of the Columbus Bar Association Business Tax Committee.
Troy is an active member in the Kiwanis Club of Columbus where he has been recognized as a Distinguished Member (2009, 2010) and serves as a Trustee (2010-2011, 2011-2012).
Troy was an attorney with Schottenstein, Zox & Dunn Co., L.P.A. before joining Calfee in 2004. He became a partner in 2006.
