DAN primarily practices in the area of government relations and legislation with additional emphasis on traditional and advanced energy development, energy research and development, state procurement, public utilities, and litigation.
He serves in an of counsel role with Calfee in addition to serving as Vice President of Legal and Government Affairs for Rock Gaming LLC, which is developing and operating urban casinos in Cleveland and Cincinnati. With Rock Gaming, Dan coordinates state and government affairs as casino construction begins.
Based in the Columbus office, Dan continues to support the government relations and legislation clients on highly complex legislative initiatives and the legal and business implications of pending legislation on his clients’ organizations.
In addition, Dan represents clients before various administrative branches of state government on matters of implementation of new statutory law, administrative rule drafting, and agency hearings.
Dan works closely with publicly and privately held clients to review and pursue state and local development incentives and actively engages his clients on proper procedures and responses to state procurement opportunities. He also counsels clients on matters of state and local elections including PAC formation, PAC regulatory compliance, Elections Commission issues, and statewide ballot initiatives.
He is a member of the Ohio State and Columbus Bar Associations as well as the Ohio State Lobbying Association. Dan has served as a board member of Columbus City Year, and he is a member of his local civic association.
Prior to joining Calfee in 2003, Dan worked for the Ohio Senate where he managed issues before the Senate Ways and Means Committee and the Senate Public Utilities Committee.
